Amazon kicking Apple Tv, Chromecast out of store
This should be fun. Amazon is not selling any streaming device that does not support Amazon Prime Video. I think that's fair.
Will be interesting if Apple responds by FINALLY allowing Amazon Prime Video on the AppleTv or if Apple will kick Amazon Prime video off it's platform. Same for Google. Really surprised that Google didn't already support Amazon Prime. I know for me, as an both an Apple and Amazon Prime customer...it has been frustrating to not have Amazon Prime on my Apple Tv. Yes, I can get there with AirPlay, but it's a hassle. The reason I bought an Apple FireTv Stick was for Amazon Prime and the Plex app. Was thinking that with apps on the new Apple Tv that both of those would make an appearance. I'm holding off on buying the new Apple Tv until both conditions are met |

This might be the primary source:
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articl...eaming-devices But is it Apple's fault that Amazon does not have an app for Apple TV? or is it Google's fault that Amazon doesn't publish Amazon Video to Google Play (with Chromecast support)? Perhaps, but I've never heard Amazon claim that to be the case. For sure, there would be no Buy button in Amazon Video for Apple TV, but on what basis would Apple reject such an app otherwise? Similarly, while there is an Amazon Video app for Android, it seems it was Amazon's choice to deliver it via the goofy means of side loading Amazon store app. Google does not take a cut of digital sales unless you want to use their ecommerce system (i.e. purchase with Google Play account). |

Nonsense like this is why I have an iMac instead of a TV for watching television. I can access everything without having a dongle or a box.

As far as Chromecasts and Nexus Players are concerned, it's Amazon's fault that Prime Video isn't supported on those devices. They have an open API that Amazon could bake into their apps at any time, as many other developers have done. They simply won't.

They could certainly add ChromeCast support to their current apps if they wanted to. As for Apple TV, the current one doesn't have an app store so it's hard to say if it's Apple or Amazon keeping it off. The new one that's coming soon will have an app store and presumably Amazon could offer an app there just like they do in the iOS store.

Not a surprise to me since Amazon Refused to let the Blu-Ray Players have their Streaming updates.

Amazon wont add support for these devices as they take you out if its eco system. Same as kindles not supporting epubs.
But not allowing to sell a competing product when you have a monopoly for online sales might get it in trouble. |

I can be an Amazon, Google, and Apple customer all at the same time, and I am. I buy Kindle books, I buy music from Google Play, Amazon Music, and Apple, and I read/play them happily all on my Apple devices.
They really should just give in to the Apple TV and Chromecast. We're probably their better customers anyway. |

I still don't believe this is true, in part because all of the articles point back to one source (Bloomberg), and the whole thing just smells like wrongsauce given all the other competing products Amazon sells.
That said, I've heard that the issue with not supporting Instant Video on Chromecast, at least, has to do with Google taking a cut of in-app purchases. |

I said might. If you have a monopoly on online sales which Amazon does not at the moment introducing your own product and then blocking sales of a competing product can be considered restraint of trade.

Doesn't make sense. The ChromeCast doesn't have apps in the same sense as something like a Roku. ChromeCast support would be added to the existing iOS and Android apps so that video could be "cast" from those devices.
