Saving libraries for transfer
Suggestions...I have to get my extensive Calibre Library(s) off my Computer and hopefully save them for future transfer into a new computer running Windows 10. My current computer has been infected with some browser redirecting bug, as well as locking me out of program Administration (Can't delete files), I may have deleted the wrong files. Anyhow, I can't seem to get a system restore, and it looks like this computer needs to be wiped (I have no idea what OS I am going to use since it's 5 years old and uses Windows 7 Basic). My new computer is going to be running on Windows 10.
Ok, what does "save to disk" do? I read about it in the users manual, but it just went on to explain how you can save files in your own way. I don't understand this. Also, do I want to embed the metadata that I have painstakingly added? All I am really asking is, what is the best way to save my libraries on a large flash drive so that I can reinstall Calibre later. Also, do I have to choose only one place to set up the library or can I have it run on multiple devices. And FINALLY, will my current Calibre library and books run on a Windows 10 (64) from a Windows 7 Basic (32)....Really, I want to just keep it on this computer, but I may have to scrap it.... |

Also, if you can't get a clean copy of Windows (should be able to use the Windows 10 free upgrade

There should be no problems with that. I migrated my very large library from an old Vista Home Basic (32) laptop to a new one with Win 8.1 (64), which I upgraded to Win 10 in August. No problems whatsoever. I just copied the library folder to an external HD and from there to a new laptop.
