Some questions about calibre

Hi,sorry for my poor english and my poor calibre knowledge.
I have 2 quick questions for managing my small library. I hope i'm in the right section of the forum

1) Is there a way to have in the "main page" (i think is "Authors" ) a custom order of the books that doesn't depend from author name, title ecc.? I just want to switch position of the books like in a proper library.

2)Is there a way to pile series book ? Let's say i have the serie of harry potter and i want that in my library is showed as "Harry Potter" and not all the seven books so that i have a compact view of my library. I know i can create "series" but i don't find i way to pile the serie.

Thanks

You can sort any of the columns by clicking the heading. You can rearrange the column by dragging and dropping the headings. Is either of these what you want?

You can also go under preferences/tweaks and then select "Specify columns to sort the booklist by on startup" to set a custom defaultsort.

I' tried to drag a book in a different position, but it doesn't work, the books stay in the same positions. I also tried to go in the tweak settings as suggested but i can't understand how it works with the codes.

This is by the way what i'm trying to do

[See attachment below.]

So i want to switch position of the book Norwegian Wood and to put in position 1.
Like i would do in a normal library.

You can not move a books position that way

Alphabetical , Numerical, Date are the 3 built in sorts, depending on column data type, with a choice of ascending or descending (clic the column head a second time to flip direction)

If you want some other order, you need a custom column that you HAND populate with values that sort.

The reading list plugin might help you manage YOUR order column

Why would this book be in position 1 in a normal library?

To sort correctly by either Title, Author or Series, you will first need to get allt he metadata correct. Then the books will sort correctly, automatically.

It was just an example, i know it's wrong to switch books in that positions.
Maybe the ducks found a possible solution, i'll try this plugin
If not,it's not the end of the world.

UPDATE: i tried the plugin, it seems what i was looking for. I just don't understand if there is a way to show this reading list as a default library. Thanks theducks

The last time I went into a real library, they were using the Dewey Decimal System

You can create a custom column and enter your own decimal system. Might be a lot of work if you want each book separately numbered. but you can apply a number in bulk to multiple books
