Ereader with syncing of side-loaded content

Hey all, I bought the Onyx Boox T68 last year and it was awesome, but got really flaky after 6 months and even a reset didn't help it. So I've been using my Note 3 as an ereader since then. Currently Moon Reader is my favorite app, but it's just.... okay... so I feel like a change. Plus I miss reading on an e-ink screen. Could just buy another android based e ink device, but none ump out at me and I'd like to get more than 6 months out of a device.

So I've heard Kindle allows the syncing of sideloaded content, even if I have to email it to Amazon to get it loaded. Am I wrong? Do Kobo or Nook offer anything like that? I've bought content from many different stores (gotta love sales lol) so the store doesn't matter to me. Most of my books are from smashwords anyway since I don't have to bother trying to strip drm from them.

Does anyone know of a Android based e-ink reader that has better long term reliability than the t68?

Otherwise, if I pick up a kindle, I see that the newest ones don't have buttons. What's the most recent version with buttons? I prefer using buttons to turn pages as opposed to swiping the screen.

Yes, you can email your content to your Kindle cloud and it will sync with most Kindle devices/apps (does not sync with the Kindle desktop apps).

The only Kindle currently to have "buttons" would be the Voyage with the haptic sensor buttons. The last one to have physical buttons would be the basic Kindle that was replaced in October 2014 with the basic touch Kindle (you can tap, you don't have tp swipe). It's often called a K4 or K4NT (non-touch). There was a silver model that first came out in 2011 and then the next year a black model (same hardware, but with a black housing [some feel the screen on the black is a bit better too]) which they sold from 2012 to 2014.

As for an Android eInk device that will last longer than the Onyx, no one can say. Many peoples T68's are still working fine and any electronic device can suffer a failure at any point in it's life. It's always unfortunate when your the one who gets the device that fails early in its life, but I haven't seen anything specific about Onyx devices failing early for large numbers of their users (not that we necessarily have huge numbers of users here on MR).

Thanks anemic. You are right that any device can go bad, I just hate when it happens to me. Tried updating the firmware today since I never bothered last ten and nope, still only works when plugged in.

Considered the voyage, but I think I must have a block when it comes to them. The more I think about buying one, the more I look for alternative s lol.

Has anyone tried the Boyue t62+? Half the cost of the voyage, fewer ppi, none of the kindle features, have to order from China, but also wouldn't have to convert my ebook collection so would save anyone little time and could use different book apps...

I have a Voyage and that's a great ereader. I like to think of myself as a very principled person. My values go something like this: reading is most important and after that comes my principles and hopes for a better world, which is pretty much on par with my need to feed myself and pay rent.

I don't know that the Voyage is the right one for you but it just might be and letting principles keep you from having the best possible reading experience seems self defeating. Especially when the principles involved are somewhat vague. Ereaders aren't political statements.

As for syncing, I do that all the time. I get most of my ebooks from Amazon but I do get them from other sources as well and I sent them to Amazon in mobi format for conversion, they go into my library and I can download them to any Kindle or Kindle app (except, as mentioned, on the PC) and sync them. It makes reading them easier.

I also like Moon+ reader on my tablet now and then and sometimes I'll read a book with it and manually sync with my phone when I think I want to read while away. At first it was an experiment that I expected to fail because it would be a hassle but I've found that surprisingly easy. I'd do that more if I didn't get eyestrain from extended reading sessions on LCD. In fact that would be my preferred way to read. I like Moon+ a lot. I just wish they'd get rid of that silly + in their name.

Get C67ML or T62 and use Syncthing to sync your content and use Koreader (whcih will let you open an account to sync pages book reading etc)

For Koreader I recommend C67ML it is more stable with it.
