Custom column - Rating
Hi I'm in need of some help. I have looked around and haven't seen this posted so figured I'd try. I'm trying to setup a new custom column and what i want to do is use the Rating column, but instead of the stars I want to replace it with the Ratings from within my Fan fictions. So if it is Teen I want it to say Teen instead of coming up as the stars. I also want to be able to add others in as time goes on.
I'm not very fluent on the programming side and sadly i wish i was a little more so but, any help would be appreciated if you understand what I'm trying to do. Thank you |

I don't think a ratings-like column is suitable for what you want. It sounds like a "Text, but with a fixed set of permitted values" would be more suitable. With that, you enter a list of the values you want, and then select them from a drop-down when the book is added.

Adding new options as time goes on is a little tricky for this type of field. You have to go into the field properties and add the new value there, plus one more color if you're using colors. If you suspect you're going to be adding possible values often in the future, you might go with a tag-like field instead. The fixed-values field is best if you intend to set it up ahead of time and rarely make changes to the possible values. |

Thank you all for the help! It's working great. I was kinda curious though if it was possible to automate it. Cause at the moment the only way for me to know which story is rated say Teen, or such is I have to edit the book and find it. It does take quite a bit of time especially when you have a lot of fanfics. If it is not possible it's not a big deal I can manage just thought I'd ask.

Couldn't you just skim read it or obtain from a summary on the site where you got the story? BR |

How are you getting the fanfic? If you are using the FanFicFare plugin, you might be able to automate this as part of the download. And for the fanfic you already have, I think you can do a metadata only download.

To answer that question I download the .epub file from the site and drag and drop it into calibre. As for FanFicFare some of the authors are no longer writing and have removed there fics from most sites so using the plugin won't help me in that aspect.
