FR: Keep modification dates of files when saving books
Hi
It would be great if there is way to keep the modification of a book based on when it is added or when it is modified etc so that when the user sorts the books on the devices they all sorted properly based on the dates in Calibre. The other option would that Calibre would respect the sorting order inside Calibre when saving the books with modified times. thanks |

Sorry, but no.
This feature would mean that if you sent a book to a device that already has many books, your sent book would not show up at the head of the list of books on the device -- and I would get to deal with all the bug reports about how calibre is failing to send books. |

Messing around with the times is a non-feature to me. A newly-exported book is new.

Btw I want to clarify that I am not talking about saving to a device or keeping things in sync between a device and Calibre. I am talking about basic file saving to a folder.

Exporting from calibre (i.e. save-to-disk among others) modifies the book in all kinds of ways. Quote:

If you save with these options set
You will get a binary copy, same size and checksums, but the Modify date of the new file will be Now. Some programs (IrfanView, ExifCleaner spring to mind, maybe Audacity too) provide an option to preserve the Modify date even though they modify the file - in place or a separate a save location. And of course a file copy/move via the cmd line or a file manager will preserve the Modify [content] date but set Create [file] date to NOW - which confuses more than a few people. BR |
