Updating Kindle Collections

To date, I have always put books into collections on my Kindle and then used the Kindle Collections tool to periodically put this information in my Calibre library. Now, however, I have spilled water on my Kindle, causing it not to work! and have purchased a new Kindle Paperwhite. I started loading books into it from Amazon, but at 10 per it would have taken quite a while to load the 939 books I have, so I went to Calibre and did the load from there ... a little messy because it double loaded the ones I had downloaded, but that wasn't hard to clean up. So, then I wanted to push the Collections from Calibre to the Kindle, but when I tried doing the customization to set the column to create collections from, it gave me an error saying that it was an unknown kind of Kindle. Then I spotted the button to select the Kindle type. There is Paperwhite and Paperwhite 2. I selected the plain one since the box says nothing about 2. I then pushed the Kindle Collections column from Calibre to the Kindle. With the device plugged in, the Kindle Collections column under Device is populated. But, with the device stand alone, there is no sign of any collections on the device.

Should I try Paperwhite 2 or am I missing something?

Tried Paperwhite 2, got a nice report and everything, but no collections visible on the Kindle. Do I perhaps have to create the collections manually on the Kindle and then the books will show in the right place? Or something?

Doing some poking about, it looks like I am going to have to jailbreak the Kindle and maybe that won't work if the firmware is too recent. How incredibly tedious!
