Change Remove Books Main Icon & Function

A previous poster commented on the confusing default icon for "Remove Books" on the Main Menu. I concur, but what's worse is clicking on it believing that button will take a person to a "Delete Options" page, but instead, it deletes whatever book happened to be highlighted AND IT'S GONE FOREVER. I propose the following remedies:

A. Change the ICON to a WARNING one.
B. Have it take a person to a DELETE OPTIONS PAGE.
C. A CONFIRM DELETE dialogue box should pop-up.
D. Create a RESTORE BOOKS action and button.

Thanks in adance!

If using Windows the behaviour is as normal for deleted files; deleted books go to the Recycle Bin from where they can be recovered if one deletes them by mistake.

Since option C is already the default (unless you clicked previously for the option to never appear again) there is no reason for a,b or d.

Not just Windows.

I believe at one point, several years ago at the least, calibre didn't know how to send to the Trash on linux. That was before my time.

And as repeatedly mentioned calibre already asks you if you are sure first. Unless you disabled and did not re-enable the warning.

Between the two, calibre is already doing everything it should or could be doing.

I have to admit that I wasn't actually aware that there was a delete icon. I just highlight the book(s) I want to delete, and press the "Delete" key on my keyboard.

Well, I also use the Delete key. But believe it or not, there has been a right-click option sitting there all this time...

calibre has a lot of icons most people don't use.

Yes, I knew about that one, too . I think I probably customised my Calibre toolbar a long time ago and removed from it the "useless" buttons (which would have included "Delete") to make room for the more useful things that aren't there by default.

But to be serious now, yes I assumed Apple and the many Linux derivatives did the same, but was in no position to know.

Like Harry I removed the icon from the menu long ago and use the right-click option.

Actually, I assume OSX has similar functionality due to the lack of qualified complaints.
I can only speak with certainty about Windows/linux, but c'mon, it's 2015 already. This stuff has long since been figured out.

There are even shell commands for sending things to the Trash. Of course calibre can do it.

But what it can't do is a real delete - no Shift+Del - moving things to recycle/trash/waste bins is for wimps

Recycle icon ==> Right-click ==> Properties ==> Don’t move files to the Recycle Bin. Remove files immediately when deleted.

Enjoy living life on the edge.

(Okay, yeah, you probably already know this.)

With little things like reminders, screenshots etc, I'm a wimp - 'I'll put that in the bin in case I need it later' - bin gets emptied at end of day.

With books in calibre libraries a delete is a considered decision, I don't turn the 'r u sure message' off. If I really want to restore something I deleted, I would get it from backup.

I often delete the author and book folders manually, and then (immediately) use Remove author/books to delete records from database - calibre doesn't mind

I run a script on my computer that automatically empties all items more than a week old from the recycle bin. I'm sure that something equivalent must be possible on windows.
