Firstly to clarify something: I can well synchronise files between my desktop and laptop (real time), that's NOT my problem. Also I can install calibre in both devices (64bit desktop, 32bit laptop).
BUT I would like to know if I can use Calibre's (same) database just as seamlessly: that is, plug my reader in either pc and find the same settings. Excuse my asking, if this is already discussed, I am newbie, if already done, can anyone point the way? ![]() |

![]() You can relocate the config folder should you need/want to via the CALIBRE_CONFIG_DIRECTORY environment variable, see Environment variables Like if on desktop you're Merv1 and on laptop you're Merv2 then you could put the config in a location that's common to both machines - eg c:\calibre\config. I do it with a desktop and notebook just as Cybmole and BetterRed have suggested - I just keep the Calibre Config folder in the same folder as my Calibre libraries and then everything is in the same place and easy to find.

As a alternative, you can always use Calibre Portable + an external hard drive. My database is available on my desktop, my laptop, my work desktop, my dad's desktop, my brother's laptop, and any other Windows computer out there whether it has Calibre installed or not.

![]() But if any/all of your computers are 64-bit capable, you will still have to run 32-bit calibre-portable (unless you enjoy work). That might matter if you do heavy conversions. |
