Importing Tags

I have books that have the following naming structure and want to be able to import with the tag. I have tried and cannot get it to work.

<Title> - <Author> - <Tag(s)> - <series>

I have tried
(?P<title>.+) - (?P<author>[^_]+) - (?P<tags>.+) - (?P<series>[^_]+)

but it will still not import the tags. Any suggestions?

That is because, as you can see in the testing box below, tags are not supported by the filename regex.

{tags} in Calibre are not a single item . What you see is a concatenated construct.

Each tag in the list is a separate record (more like what you see if you click the Tag edit while editing metadata). The REGEX template can't parse the tag list.

The regex template can parse tags just fine, all it has to do is locate a dumb string.

The actual issue is that calibre only supports a limited subset of fields for importing metadata from filenames, and tags did not make the cut.
Neither did custom columns.
