iPhone Popslate case transforms the back of the iPhone into e-paper display (video)

Two clear benefits of e-paper display are the ability to read on it in the bright sunlight, and the low power consumption.

On the other side of the story there is the iPhone that needs to be recharged at least once a day.

It’s not surprising that new technologies emerge that try to combine two worlds. The solution from Popslate seems to be most promising.

It’s the case with embedded e-paper display. So, your iPhone gets the second screen on its back, with the promise to save some battery life during a day.

Don’t expect too much, however. What you can display on e-paper screen is pictures, including screenshots. Popslate communicates with the iPhone via a special application available in the iTunes App Store – and it’s basically a photo app.

You can keep on e-paper your girlfriend’s photo, a to-do list, a cover of the book you are currently reading, or a boarding pass.

You won’t be able to perform actions from specific apps. So, at least for now, there is no way to read an ebook on Popslate.

This seems rather pointless if it's just a static display with no ability to run apps on it.

InkCase (from our wiki) has been around for some time now. Perhaps this version will catch up someday.
