Favicon is squished

I am looking at the MobileRead favicon in Chrome, and the aspect ratio looks off to me. Looks like the site's logo got stretched horizontally and the cartoonish reader in the favicon looks almost square. Is it my settings, or are others seeing this too?

I played around with the logo a bit in Photoshop, and my conclusion is that the person who made the favicon did not increase the canvas size to make it a perfect square after cropping the logo. If you did that and converted it to an icon with a favicon generator, you would get something like this:

As you can see, the aspect ratio in this icon is correct and matches the one in the MR logo.

For what it's worth, I see the squashed icon too, in Firefox.

I don't care if it's distorted, as long as it's recognisable - which it is.

Squashed logo here in Firefox, and the one brain cell that I devoted a few years ago to caring

came to the conclusion that it was deliberate.

By the way, it is similar with the icon used in the forums main page, for instance for this forum "Feedback".

It might have been deliberate, but it is ugly once you notice (and I'm surprised I didn't notice before). It's not the same version of the thingy, but you can tell the aspect is not right because the wheel is not a circle, but an ellipse (a vertical ellipse could be justified by perspective, but not a horizontal one).
