Several libraries within CC

I want to use/manage my ebooks, -about 800-, with CC. In order to scroll not through the full amount of books with Calibre I use different libraries e.g. calibre1-Bibliothek a.s.o.
How I can achive this by CC?????
Many thanks in advanve and best regards.

Start a content server (use the CLI) for each. CC will ask which when it finds more than one.

sample: be sure to set full path to Library (cyan) and a unique port (red) for each.
C:\Program Files\Calibre2\calibre-server.exe" --port 8083 --with-library C:\Users\<username>\MainLib

@Wolf79 - have you considered using multiple virtual libraries within a single physical library rather than multiple physical libraries.

This would allow the same book to appear in more than one virtual library - which can be useful.

BetterRed's suggestion is a good one.

However, if you don't want to do that then you can do what you want by:
  1. Create a "Text" custom column in each library. Be sure the column has the same lookup name in each library.
  2. In each library put the name of the library (or whatever you want) into the custom column. Bulk metadata edit is the easiest way to do this. You will need to do it again whenever you add books.
  3. In CC, connect to each library as a wireless device.
  4. In CC's settings (Setting, Grouping Drawer), add the new column to the grouping drawer (Group/sort on custom columns).
At this point you can control which books to display in CC by long-pressing on the library name in the grouping drawer.

You can do the same thing using a tag.

You can avoid the whole problem by using the grouping drawer, reducing the number of books being displayed to those with the desired author, series, tag, or what-have-you. Some CC users keep more that 10,000 books on their device and don't have trouble finding what they are looking for.

OK. Thanks to all for the quick response.
I will try it later on. No the weather is fine I have to go outdoors.

By the way. For me the easist way would be to buy some more CC licences and install it.
Possible?????

No, for two reasons. First, Google Play will not let you buy a second copy of any app using the same login, because one purchase is enough to install anywhere. Second, CC has one database, so even if you had multiple licenses every copy would share the same db.

And yes, the weather is gorgeous here as well. It is a pleasure to go outside.

There *is* a way for an android tablet to have multiple copies of CC .... installing multiple user accounts. I actually have two CC libraries on my tablet; one on my ereading account (restricted profile, no games, Internet access or password) and a different on one on my main (passworded) account.

You are right. And I am embarrassed that I forgot about this technique, especially since I wrote about it in CC's FAQ answer How do I make CC run for a child in a restricted account without internet access?

Yesterday, 07.08.2015 I did comment and ask questions to the above. It seams something was going wrong by posting. I not found it now.

OK once more in short.
I did check slightly some of the proposals.
Mainly chaleys because of using build in functions. I did create user columns designated "Library" filled with "calibre1, .. 2. ...3". Principally it works. The same result with tags.
(the function of long pressing the name I didn't know before.)

But in this way only 1 calibre can be hidden. Is this limitation "build in" or did I something wrong?
Of course I use the grouping drawer, its great. Aditional, to hide not used librarys would reduce the amount of authors, titles a.s.o. and provide an improved overview.
In any case I like CC very much. I repeat, it's great. May be with an update in, future it will be possible to manage several librarys as with calibre.

To BetterRed. Sorry what are "multiple virtual libraries"??. How to create??

To ekbell. I did try to create a limited google account. Than I read in many comments Android 5 provide not the possibility to create it with smartphones. Only by tablets.

Vl's are created in Calibre using a the search syntax (or from a Saved Search that exists) . (click on the Virtual Library button to see options. Read the Online help to sort those out)

The VL can be exposed as a Tab for quick access

One advantage is Onions (Thank you Shrek for the layer analogue)

Normally (full library) only 1 saved search can be active at a time.
With a VL active, you can still use a saved search. In this case it applies to the restricted VL view

I cannot count the number of times I have posted something only to find that I didn't really post it. Highly frustrating.

It is possible that I am answering the wrong question.

Long-press does a search for an item, such as a tag. You have the choice of all books with that item or all books without that item (matching or not). This gives you a built-in way to ask for all books in (virtual) library X or all books not in (virtual) library X.

If you want all books in virtual library X OR virtual library Y then you must use the search box. If you are using tags then you would enter something like
Code:
tags:"=virtlib1" or tags:"=virtlib2"
and so on. You can use "and", "or", and parenthesis to see exactly the books you want.

The downside of this kind of search is that it is slow because CC must scan the metadata. It runs at around 25 or 30 books per second. If you have a thousand books then the search can take 30 to 40 seconds. However, if you use tags and if you add a unique tag for each search you want to do then you can use simple search, which is much faster.

Thanks a lot again. Meanwhile did continue to check and I see with Tags is to reach managing the CC content according to my needs. (nearly)
May be in future I will try to create a restricted account and install a 2nd library and other proposals above.
