Calibre UI isuses 2.32.1

Firstly, the OSX version is generally an unpolished piece of crap which looks like windows garbage. It has crap like "do not leave in system tray" or whatever in the preferences. The interface in general is just cluttered with crappy trackpad support.

So I want to view the bloody book like it's going to be seen in my kindle. Obviously, the app knows what my device is, I selected it at the beginning. So why is it adjusting the formatting when I adjust the viewer window? Why is the viewer window even adjustable!? It should just be the same size as the device or relative to it. Whoever did the interface is a joke. Also, if calibre zips html files. Why doesn't it have some kind of support to open it in the viewer? I don't know what settings I have to click on and I don't care to dig in it. I should just double click and it should open. But it doesn't. So I try converting the html to mobi and then the stupid viewer doesn't even view it properly like it's going to be seen in the device. Or maybe it does and it can't properly format the text to fit the screen?? Who knows. The text goes off the page to the right. Really? If a user can't figure out something or is uncomfortable within 30 seconds, the app sucks. App development 101. This is why Steven Jobs was the only one who knew what they were talking about.

He obviously doesn't know enough to realize that THE BOOK he is trying to open in the viewer is badly formatted.... That's not the fault of the app.

OBTW - exactly how much did you PAY for that FREE app??

OR - exactly how much have you contributed to making that OPEN SOURCE app better instead of just whining.

AND - ditto to Bernie...did you bother reading the manual first...or spend ANY amount of time trying to figure it out??

Just thought I'd point out that Jobs had no idea idea how to design anything, thats why he had to hire people to resurrect Mac OS from the grave.

Is that the line of thought that made brilliant things like a mouse with just one button? Obviously three buttons are totally too confusing to use. It's much easier to just press a key in addition to using the mouse...

I don't know, but I rather have an app that could do something if I spend more than 30 seconds learning it, than an app that can't do it, because it achieves your brilliant 30 second rule by just cutting any advanced features.

No, it's actually a lot worse than that.
The OP doesn't seem to realize that the calibre "E-Book Viewer" is not, in fact, secretly an "ereader device previewer".
Resizing the E-Book Viewer is actually a perfectly normal thing to do, assuming you have any idea what the heck an ereader program is supposed to do.

Granted, there appears to be an additional problem in that the book is indeed ill-made if text is going off the side of the window -- it is extraordinarily hard to mess that up even if I thought the E-Book Viewer hadn't received any thought or polish!

(It is of course very easy for ebook makers to mess it up though. All it takes is stupidity...)

Oh, and it must be nice to be able to dismiss a multi-million-user program as worthless and sucky rather than oneself as a clueless user (luser, and boy is that term ever applicable

).

I wonder if it only took him 30 seconds to "learn?" how to use his MacBook? Might explain some things...

Calibre is really one of the best programs I've ever used. There are so many things it can do. I probably wouldn't have gotten into ebooks at all if not for calibre (and the Alf plugin, too, of course).

But then, there will always be jerks. Can't be helped.

I continue to be shocked and appalled by rudeness on the Internet, and especially in communities. I have no trouble at all recognizing there are real people behind the avatars and message text.

Every user doesn't have to love Calibre as much as I do, but to come in and blast out unhappiness, frustration, and disappointment before realizing that any of those concerns could probably have been addressed had manners been employed is just ignorance. Go Dr. Drib for the excellent response.
