Lightbulb Free (nook/Kindle/Kobo/iTunes UK) Malala [Teen Nobel Peace Prize Winner Memoir]

Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up For Education and Changed the World by teenaged Pakistani Nobel Peace Prize recipient Malala Yousafzai (Wikipedia, whom you may know best as the schoolgirl who was shot in the head by Taliban terrorists) & National Book Award finalist author Patricia McCormick (Wikipedia), is the former's autobiographical memoir of her childhood, formative experiences and early activism, and subsequent recovery, etc., free courtesy of publisher Hachette's Orion Children's Books imprint.

Apparently, this is a slightly more personally-oriented and motivationally inspiring younger-reader-friendly book than her earlier memoir co-written with journalist Christina Lamb (Wikipedia), both of which have high praise from many newspaper outlets.

Currently free @ B&N UK (watch out if "purchasing" from device; apparently there's also a "Younger Reader's Edition" which is not free), Amazon UK, iTunes UK, and Kobo (available to the UK and Ireland, but not in any of the usual other EU/Oceania countries I spot-checked, though YMMV). Probably also Google Play UK.

Unlikely to cross the pond in any direction, as apparently this exists in slightly different editions worldwide.

ETA: there are now reports that this is crossing the pond, at least in the direction of the European continent. orangekiwi notes downthread that it's become available in Germany @ Amazon & Kobo and possibly elsewhere (and I just spot-checked iTunes DE, and Amazon in the Netherlands & iTunes in Denmark, all of where this edition is now free). However, still unfree for North Americans and Antipodeans, as we don't seem to have this particular version available under the same title (the Australians do, but it's a slightly different edition which is full price at this time of price-drop-checking).

And this has been the (late!) selected 3rd (non-repeat) free ebook thread of the day.

Because education is important, and so is standing up to those who would deny it to anyone for any reason, but it's easy for people to say that from the comfortable safety of a stable country well away from any conflict, so the courage to actually do that can be pretty rare when one's own life is really on the line, so kudos for a well-deserved Nobel Prize and setting a touching and inspiring example to us all.

Enjoy!

Description
Written in collaboration with critically acclaimed NATIONAL BOOK AWARD finalist Patricia McCormick, Malala tells her story - from her childhood in the Swat Valley to the shooting, her recovery and new life in England.

She's a girl who loves cricket, gossips with her best friends, and, on the day of the shooting, nearly overslept and missed an exam. A girl who saw women suddenly banned from public, schools blown up, the Taliban seize control, and her homeland descend into a state of fear and repression.

This is the story of her life, and also of her passionate belief in every child's right to education, her determination to make that a reality throughout the world, and her hope to inspire others.

"Malala is not available in Australia."

There are so many ways I can take this...

FWIW, Kobo is really lax about checking where the traveling pond-crossers really come from, if it helps any.

Kobo? Lax? I can't believe it! haha

Thanks. I will check Kobo as soon as I finish making this post.

*Sigh* If only it was 5 million years from now, when, according to plate tectonics theory, North America and Great Britain will be part of one great landmass once again. We wouldn't be having these issues. (Actually, I don't know what plate tectonics says about 5 million years from now. ha.)

Yip seen this too. But I've been denied a book once, because Kobo thought I live in Norway

Well, think 100+ million years, and it will still be a lo-ooo-ong drive.

Got it.

Thanks, Kobo. (Gotta cover your bases: An Amazon account here, a Kobo account there, A Fictionwise account everywhere --- )

And thank you, ATDrake!

Yeah, there's all kinds of problems with my dream.

The article that you cited suggested that North America will collide (but ever so gently) with Asia, not Europe. So, if Kobo is still around, maybe the people here then can get the same deal as China does. ha

But, although the U.S. and Canada share a long border with each other, sometimes the U.S. is shut out of Kobo, Amazon, et al. deals in Canada, and vice versa. So, being right beside a country is sometimes of no benefit. Oh, well.

It's also available still for free in Germany. Available at both amazon and kobo and probably elsewhere. Just watch you get the right edition.

ATDrake Thanks for making us aware of this.
