Can't decide on new ereader

I can't decide on which ereader//tablet to get
I want a basic ereader with audio, but the current gen kindle and nook ereaders don't have audio for some reason.
My next choice would be a galaxy tab nook (preferably) or an Ipad. I don't want a Fire, I had one and really don't like it.
I don't want all the additional stuff of a tablet, but I also don't want an ereader if it doesn't have audio. the Nook is the most appealing to me but I'm having a hard time definitively deciding.
I also need something that would be possible to convert all my Kindle and Audible books onto. I think I can do it for the GlowLight and Galaxy Tab but I'm not sure if I can convert it to ipad, if not that's out...
Help would be appreciated

Do you want the audio for text-to-speech, or just because you don't have a smartphone or pocket audio player to use?

The iPad can run the Kindle app, so no conversion necessary. Just install it, and register to the same account you've been using.

You can also install the Audible app for your audio books.

I would like to simultaneously listen to my audiobooks and read along. I could just use my smartphone for audiobooks but I prefer to keep them all in one place

Some of the Onyx models have audio.

If you want to sync between your Kindle books and Audible books, I think you have to have a Kindle Fire. That is the only thing I know of that will do that.

Kindle app syncs with the Audible app on iOS.

If by sync you mean the words in the kindle book are highlighted as the narrator says them on the Audible book, yes I'd need a Kindle Fire to do that.
I'm fine without them being synced, I just want to be able to play both of them at the same time on the same device. I've found many tablets that could do the trick, I'm having a hard time deciding though.
My first choice right now would be a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Nook, then an Ipad, then a Nexus 7. I just really can't decide.

I had a Fire HD 2 and really didn't like it. I just want a simple ereader - not tablet - with audio capability but since I havent found anything like that, I'm very wary on the kind of tablet I get since my first and only tablet I didn't really like.

Or you could try and find a good deal on a used Sony PRS-650 or the slightly newer Sony T1. They are both eInk devices with audio capability.

I have the Kindle app on my Galaxy tab nook. The nook has google play. It's a really good e-reader. It's my favorite currently. (Husband is now using the Kindle Fire.) I still like Amazon better as far as a shop, but I love that Galaxy Nook.

I have no idea about audible though.

Audio as in MP3, but not Audible IIRC. The OP would have to convert their books to MP3 first.

If we're talking older models a Kindle Touch or Kindle Keyboard would offer both MP3 and Audible support (plus TTS). Both should be available used fairly cheap.

There is an Audible app in the Google Play store.

Thanks, I did not know that. I just recently switched from Nook HD+ to my first iPad. I don't use Audible now but I might in the future.

Ah, thank you! I confess I know very little about audio books as I have never tried using one. Good to know about the older Kindles and audiobooks as well. I am keeping my eyes peeled for a gently used Kindle to try, so it's good to know there's a bit of a "bonus" to those older ones.
