Simple Kindle Voyage sideloading question
I may be getting a Kindle Voyage soon. One question I haven't been able to find a definitive answer to: How much space is available for sideloading?
I know the Voyage has 4GB of internal storage and the O/S takes up about a gig. Is all the rest of that space available to use as I please? I just want to make sure Amazon hasn't pulled any Nook Glowlight shenanigans. |

Yes, I don't know the exact size off hand, but Kindle storage is not partitioned like Nook storage is you have the full amount of space available for sideloading.

Added: I think the usable space is closer to 3.5 GB.

There's about 3 1/4 GB of available user storage. Same as the PW.

Groovy. Thanks for the responses.
I used to agitate heavily for micro SD card slots until I realized that in all my years with my Nook, I've only filled about 1.5 GB of space. So the amount offered more than works unless they pulled a B&N-style fast one. |

I have about 1900 books on my Voyage, and it's almost full. A fair number of those, though, are multi-book omnibus editions.

Really, I'd prefer to still have a micro SD card slot. But of the e-readers I was scoping out, only the Aura had one. And the Glo-HD and Voyage hi-res screens were more tempting once I saw that I could get by on a 'meager' 3 GB. The Voyage's flush, hi-res screen and page turn buttons are what made me pick that as a winner. |

Me too, and once you get to that point, it gets a bit irrelevant how much storage the device has, to my mind. As long as you can store enough books on it to give you a good choice of reading (and 1000+ books should be enough), that's fine for me.

... an opinion which I feel I summed up very well a couple years ago:

![]() On a slightly more serious note: one plus to micro SD is that (in theory) you could eject the card from an old reader, plug it in to a new one and all your books are there. (I say all this, though in general, I agree with your sentiment.) |

I prefer a tablet for comics. Not just for the color (I know manga are generally black and white) but for the screen size (and I understand manga tankobon are closer in size to an e-reader).

If you have the memory of a goldfish like I do, you'll be glad of having to re-read all those books anyway. I've re-read fiction a couple years later with no clue how it ended the first time. Who says having a poor memory doesn't have it's advantages?

But assuming someone reads them, and wants to read them on an E-Ink device, I certainly wouldn't recommend an ereader that can only store a handful of their manga. It's all about needs, real vs. perceived. |

![]() Actually, I reread my books anyway. And come to think of it, who says even an SD card will increase the storage capacity enough for the full span of your island stay??? It would just give you longer before you had to recycle your reading anyway. |
