I cringed a bit when he turned up the brightness level on the PW by using the slider.
Turning it all the way up doesn't turn it all the way up. He should have tapped the "Max" button next to the slider. That button increases the brighness even if the slider is all the way up. |

The kobo looks a little better without the front light, slightly white background and darker text. But with the front light on, I much prefer the kindle. The kobo light looks too blue.

Screens look identical to me. The light on the PW looks more blotchy, but I think that's because it goes lower, which for me is a plus. Shame the Kobo's lowest setting is higher. I suspect it's to stop accusations of blotchiness.

Luck of the LED BIN. My PW3 in person looks much more blueish/gray than Kobo HD, which looks whiter, (and sets contrast off a little better.) But the differences are very small, and which looks better depends on lighting.
When you don't embed modified fonts in the Book to make them look identical, Kobo HD is a potentially much better text rendering (TypeGenius.) That's probably no benefit for those who like to read with Caecilia. Kindle PW3 has better just about everything else. |
