Cover Art + Calibre + Kindle Paperwhite 3 - Problems

Hello All,

I am using Calibre 2.31.0, and for the AZW3 that I have converted from EPUB, when I transfer the AZW3 to the latest Kindle Paperwhite 3 via "Send to Device", many of the books have different sized thumbnails in "Cover Flow". Some are big, some are small, but they aren't uniform, and it looks very odd.

I never had this problem with the Kindle Paperwhite 2.

Is anyone else seeing this, any solution for this?

Perhaps the cover size needs to be updated, the covers calibre sideloads are kept as small as possible while still working -- to preserve space.

When new Kindles first come out with increased resolution, calibre might need updating -- happened for the PW1 as well, IIRC.

What is the max resolution of the new Kindle anyway?

As @eschwartz said, most likely the cover thumbnail height needs to be updated, but to do that, somebody with the device needs to figure out what that size should be. Currently it is set to 470 pixels which is known to work with all other models of Kindle.

I sent some books to my PW3 to test this and I don't see anything that is egregiously bad. It's the same as they look in my PW2. I appreciate that the cover's aspect ratio is preserved, otherwise it would look very weird. The only one that looks very small is the one for Pillars of the Earth, but that's because I have a small cover to begin with, I imagine, at 206x345.

My bad, I think for now it's good. I have re-converted some old EPUBs using the latest calibre and it exports fine.

I want to tell you personally kovidgoyal, thank you so much for dedicating your time to develop and maintain Calibre!

You were already on the latest calibre according to your OP.

Perhaps the issue was in the books' cover sizes?
