Does the standard "Edit Metadata" feature of Calibre not do what you need?

True, but one really should treat the Calibre library as a "black box" and not attempt to copy files directly from it. Any "legitimate" method of exporting files from Calibre will embed the metadata during the export process.

Are you sure the metadata is not embedded? It should be. To not export the cover and opf, just select the option to only export a single format.

When I save, depending which option I choose, I get either a PDF file without embedded data, or three files (jpg, opf, pdf) |

You can configure in "Preferences" which files get exported when you do a "Save to Disk"; I have mine set up so only the book itself is saved. The metadata, though, absolutely should be being written to the book. How are you determining that it hasn't been?

Note that PDF's have extremely limited metadata support. This older thread discusses it a bit.

That's not true any longer. PDF metadata is now as good as epub (except for covers). calibre stores all its metadata in XMP format in the PDF. And can read that back as well.
The only problem is the same as that with EPUB -- software other than calibre may not understand calibre created metadata, except for a small number oof "standard" fields. |

Helo,
I tried everything, including changing the settings of "save on the drive". Nothing doing, I still get a PDF file without embedded data. I use Google Drive on my PC to manage my library of epub and pdf documents. With my tablet, I use Aldiko to extract documents from Drive and read them. Unlike epub, pdf documents on my Drive have no metadata and I want to create for each of them before downloading them on my tablet. So I made several trial with one and small pdf (460ko) which I added a comment, cover (500kb), a label. According to the backup option, I get either a single pdf file 490 kb (supposed containing imbeded data) or a folder containing a pdf 460ko, opf 2ko of a jpg 500kb Whenever I download on my tablet each one of the two pdf file provided by Calibre and I publish, there is no metadata. When I reload the pdf 490ko in Calibre, metadata are there except the cover. It may also Aldiko can not read the metadata pdf Last edited by institut; 06-26-2015 at 06:23 AM. |
