Kindlegen With A Single HTML File

I have been testing Kindlegen with a single HTML file. It does indeed create a .mobi and it set the title from the <title></title> element (not surprising really).

Is there a way to add other metadata when using Kindlegen like this? Or does one have to create an opf file in order to set things like Author?

Simply download Sigil, add the html file and add the metadata by pressing F8. (KindleGen can handle epub files.)

I upload my epubs to the KDP. I figure the closer I get to the actual sales point, the more trustworthy my preview will be. I haven't had a problem yet, in maybe 15 books. As I revise earlier publications, I do those in Sigil as well, and upload them to the KDP.

I have however adopted Sigil's file-splitting option, with an external style sheet.
