Error message installing Calibre

Trying to install Calibre on Xubuntu 14.04.
I have wget, python 2.7 and xdg-utils installed.
When running the command as in the Download Page here I get this error:

That indicates your computer is unable to resolve code.calibre-ebook.com to an IP address. Check your network configuration. You should be able to work around it by adding the appropriate record directly to /etc/hosts

Hi,
Thanks for that - AFAIK my internet connection is fine so I'm not sure that the configuration is a problem. What should I be looking for (and where) to determine whether that's the cause?
What exactly do I need to add to the etc/hosts file?

According to ping, the current IP address of code.calibre-ebook.com is 166.78.100.224 -- so use:

166.78.100.224 code.calibre-ebook.com

It is in the format "ip-address some_url"
