The Room Where Writers Write

I think most of us have a special relationship with the room where we write.

With that in mind, I thought this article on rooms and writers might be interesting.

I'm nowhere near the need/means to have a dedicated writing room. I do most of my writing on my netbook while slouched in a well-worn chair in our living room, and I do some of the polishing on my desktop in the upstairs computer room.

But, I have done a lot of "first draft writing" and brainstorming with pen and paper in parks on picnic tables, and with an audio recorder while driving.

... and it was only placed there to add extra interest to the photo.

I'm not about to share a photo of my work-space, there are too many items that might need explaining or blurring out.

But I will tell you that along the top of my computer screens I have a collection of those small plastic toys they sometimes sell in supermarkets. I currently have Harry Potter and Dumbledore, various characters from Ice Age, the full set of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and an array of Simpson characters - including Sideshow Bob doing his Gilbert and Sullivan routine - I like to work in a distraction free environment.
