Book view ctrl+v

This one has really got me stumped - can anyone help?

Using 0.8.6. paste using ctrl+v in book view only has suddenly disappeared. I thought it was one of 'those' glitches so uninstalled then, after cleaning the drive, reinstalled. Same thing. So:
  • ctrl+v still works in code view, faultlessly.
  • Moving text by clicking and dragging also faultless.
  • Using ctrl+c (or ctrl+x) works: by right clicking I can still put the marked text where I want it, but get the 'do you want to paste clipboard data as plain text' box come up. That also allows pasting.
  • And.... I still have 0.7.4 installed and ctrl+v works perfectly in both book view and code view.

Any idea what's going on and how I can fix it??

Thanks all.

You're right: Ctrl+V doesn't get a response in Book View. I can however paste text by using the top menu: Edit > Paste. The plain-text offer comes up (in Book View, not in Code View when I use Ctrl+V).

Thanks for quick reply Notjohn. I thought it had just given up, but you're saying it never did work in 0.8 at all?? So how did it get 'lost' after it worked (and still does) in 0.7.4?

Why remove it?

(And how come I never noticed it in all the months I've been using it.......(not that I normally edit in book view)....??)

Questions, questions..................

Pasting definitely wouldn't deliberately be removed. If anything, it would probably be just some minor upgrade/regression in Qt that broke it.

What Operating System are you on?

I was on 0.8.3 on Windows 7 64-bit, and I just upgraded to 0.8.6 to test this, and Ctrl+V in Book View is/was still working perfectly fine on my end with both versions.

This might be an OS or build issue:
  • CTRL+V works fine in Book View mode with the official 64bit 0.8.6 build on my Windows 8 machine and the unofficial 32bit/64bit Linux builds.
  • CTRL+V doesn't work in Book View mode with DiapDealer's unofficial 0.8.6 Windows XP build, however, you can still paste text via the context and Edit menus.

@rbruce1314: Did you install the official build or one of DiapDealer's unofficial builds?

That DiapDealer guy's messing things up!

Actually CTRL-V is working fine for me in Book View on 32-bit Vista using either my unofficial 0.8.6 Legacy build, or my unofficial 0.8.6 32-bit build.

It also works fine on the same machine using the official 32-bit installer.

My unofficial packages use Qt5.4.1 where the official uses 5.4.0, so there could be something there. I also custom-compiled my own Qt5 for those builds so it can't be ruled out that I did something wrong.

ALSO: don't let the "do you want to paste clipboard data as plain text" prompt trip anyone up. On Windows that has always been dependent on what application you were copying from more than anything. If plain text was copied to the the clipboard (from say Notepad or other text-editor), you won't get that prompt when pasting.

Wow! what a load of answers!! Now I'm even more confused though!!!

Answers:
  • W7 Home Premium (x64)
  • Sigil 0.8.6 originally downloaded from official(?) website via link to GitHub.
  • Downloaded on 17th April 2015.
  • And - who the hell is that DiapDealer??!!
And - and: I thought it was working before, then stopped a couple of days ago - it's only Notjohn's post that made me think it never had been working in 0.8.6.

So, guys - what's the message now? Should it work or not - and if so, how do I do summat about it?? Is it to do with the download, have I got a 'nasty', or ...... or........ or....... ??

Any advice/help welcome at this point - more confused than at the start of the thread.....

Or can someone give me a guaranteed link to the 0.8.6 download to avoid any more confusion?

Thanks all......

As mentioned. (you can confirm with Help About)

Normal W x64) Sigil uses Qt 5.4.0
Diaps builds for all us users of antiquated Hardware and OS: uses Qt 5.4.1

FWIW I use Shift-Insert, so I never noticed this issue.

Github is the place to go, just be sure its the same Github ==>> https://github.com/user-none/Sigil/releases

I have 0.8.6 on another windows 7 machine - not problem - its 32bit, as it the 0.8.3 install

Disable/exit any clipboard extenders in use - eg ditto, arsclip, clipboard magic, etc

The somewhat similar issue calibre had/has is in this thread ==>> clipboard contents retention
It too has been inexplicably intermittent - ie just a few users with the problem
In one instance it was solved it by disabling AVG virus scanner

Thanks again for all the ideas - but it seems we are not much forrarder at the moment.

So: three questions, the answers to which will decide if I give up....
  1. Why, with one PC, one hard drive, one file location, does 0.7.4 work perfectly yet 0.8.6 has these problems?
  2. Could it possibly be anything to do with the fact that I've ended up with several copies of Microsoft C++ due to all the recent reinstallations?
  3. and, failing all that, when is Sigil 0.9 due to be released??!!??!!

Thanks folks - quite a range of ideas and possibilities (but not a whole load to tinker with...... ).

@1: Very likely QT5 is the culprit. Version 0.7.4 uses QT4.
@2: Nope, very unlikely.
@3: When it is done... Could be weeks, could be months.

At least you got some ideas and possibilities - most places all you get is boilerplate platitudes - happy tinkering
