Epub to Pdf results in very large font size.

I finally converted my OS from XP to 8.1 64 bit and am glad to have left the Dark Ages behind and be able to use all the great new features of calibre. Two problems so far:

1. When I converted two different epub files to pdf without modifying any of the parameters, the resulting text is in a very large font size. Haven't tried any other conversions yet. Is there any easy fix?

2. I know it's nothing to do with this sub-forum, but ...I like having my Book Details section at the bottom of the screen rather than the default on the right side. I can't for the life of me figure out how I moved it with my old system.

Thanks as always for your help.

@Joan M

Q1 - maybe something to do with installed fonts.

Q2 - Preferences->Look and Feel->User Interface layout -- set it to Narrow.

It's probably too late now - but I would have tried moving my old config folder to the new machine.

Q1 -- Make sure you have set the output profile correctly, by default it creates a PDF sized for your configured E-Ink device. If you intend on reading that on a PC, the fonts are huge.
Common slipup.

Man! I knew you guys would come through. What a bunch of winners.

BR - "narrow" I thought. Is he daft or sumpin'? Oh, look! It's back the way I like. And if I even knew what a config folder is, I probably wouldn't be asking such elementary questions. Sad, but true.

Thanks again, all.

@Joan M - in main GUI program (library manager) go to Preferences->Miscellaneous and click Open configuration directory button.
