Question Connecting to calibre server

Hello

Recently I've decided to create my personal online book library. So i installed calibre server and added some books to it. Everything worked smoothly and I was able to access my books over the Internet with various readers and browsers.

Then I put username and password on library access and here comes my problem: I still can access the library from browser and MoonReader but my favorite reader - AlReader - is unable to access the library. It gives me error 400 bad request. On server side there is error http/1.1 400 736.

I contacted the developer and he suggested that possibly basic authentication may not be supported by calibre and it may require some sort of digest authentication.

Can you please confirm it or suggest something else?

Many thanks in advance

You did read the RED notes next to the Set Password box when you set up your content server?

Yes I did. It warns about incompatibility with some devices. I'm asking here for some help and additional details hoping to find the root of the problem.

There was some discussion here (MR) years ago. The result was the RED note.

Thanks for answering.
What causes incompatibility in my case? Is it because the basic authentication is not allowed?

I can confirm that calibre does not support basic authentication. I cannot confirm that this is the root cause of your problem.

If your app cannot support digest auth then you have only a few choices:
  • Set up a reverse proxy as described in this calibre FAQ answer and have it support basic auth.
  • Use a different app to download the books.
  • Get the app developer to add digest auth to the app.
