how to apply kobo gift card

I remembered there is a way to apply your kobo gift card to your account and then redeem it later when you purchse. but I cannot find it now. Seems the only way to use it is when you do actual purchase. Can anyone tell me how to apply my gift card to my account without actual purchase?

If you are in a country where Kobo sells what they call 'eGift cards' (these are not physical cards, but gift vouchers sent by email) then you can use your physical gift card to purchase an eGift card, email it to yourself, then redeem the eGift card and get credit on your account.

Cannot believe it has to be so complicated. Kobo just make anything more inconvenient than amazon

Well it will depend on country, but in New Zealand I can buy physical Kobo gift cards at my local bookshop, but I can't buy physical Amazon gift cards anywhere, not even online from Amazon unless I use a freight forwarder and pay the postage myself (and it sort of defeats the purpose of a physical gift card if I have to buy it online.) So in my case Amazon is the one making it difficult, Kobo is much simpler.
