I got an email a few days ago from Kobo welcoming me "to my Kobo Glo HD." I didn't register it but probably when I synced to get the firmware update is when they got my info. One of the items covered in the email is about the concierge system where it says:
"Your Kobo Glo HD includes a free exclusive concierge service for tips on getting started, personalized eBook recommendations, plus exciting offers just for you*. Call: 1-884-342-4436 Legal *Exclusive to Kobo Glo HD. Available 9AM-9PM local time, 7 days a week. Service supported in Canada, United States, Australia, New Zealand, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, United Kingdom, Portugal and Brazil only." I called the number for the heck of it and seemed like it was going to connect to a live person, not just a bunch of automated recordings, since it said calls may be monitored. But since I really had nothing to ask, I hung up before that point. 884 seems to be a free area code, there is no charge involved. |

I can't see the point unless you are really a newbie. If the Glo HD is your first device it might be handy, but if you already have a fairly good idea what you are doing?
And I don't need advice on what to read next -- I have hundreds of books that I WANT to read, and add a few more to the list every week -- I am NEVER going to read everything I want to, already! |

If they were actually suggesting what to read next, that might be handy. Sometimes it can be hard to decide. They would need to know all the books I have available, what I have been reading and what my mood is and I don't remember that "mood detector" was one of the features of the Glo HD. Of course, what they are really doing is telling me what to buy now. And I have no hassle with that as the current recommendations aren't to bad for me.
