Missing cron on Kindle 4.1.2

I'm trying to create a Kindle Weather Display. To make it update every hour, I need to set up a cron job. However, cron seems to be missing from my Kindle!

/etc/crontab isn't there and nor is /etc/init.d/cron

Is this to be expected? Is there some way I can install cron?

Do you have the crond and crontab commands? Then just create those files/folders. You may have to launch crond manually, check top to see if it's running.

I (Kindle Touch) don't have /etc/init.d/cron although I do have /etc/crontab/root -- which contains a couple important things, including the update checker!
