Keeping custom dictionaries after syncing?

I've seen a few references in threads to patches, scripts, or other tricks to keep or re-apply your custom dictionaries when you do a Sync. I tried searching old threads for instructions on what to do, but I think most of the posters were writing for people who know more about the internals of the Kobo than I do.

It also worried me a bit to find that the post for Kobo Patcher (which was referenced in some of the custom dictionary threads) hasn't been active since 2014. I may not know that much about Kobo internals but I know that using the wrong patcher is generally a problem!

Can anyone point me to a post or other instructions on how I can keep my custom dictionaries after a sync?

I've tried to find a patch to block the dictionarry sync, but with no success so far.

One thing you can do is to watch the sync progress carefully, and as soon as it says "Loading dictionaries" tap the sync tile to cancel the sync. Loading dictionaries is the last step in the sync process, so if you cancel the sync at that point nothing except the dictionary sync is left incomplete. I've experimented a little bit and it seems that even if the dictionary starts to download, as long as I cancel the sync before the download has finished, the old dictionary will remain unchanged.

I thought at one point there was a patch that changed the name of the dictionaries on the Kobo so that when the download did happen, it was downloaded but did not ovwewrite what had been loaded by the user.

Hi ! Could somebody tell me what happened to the "updated" hyph_lg.dic after an update ? It seems to me they were kept but I'm not sure...
