a couple of rookie consultations
Good afternoon:
This is my first consultation at the forum, I hope in the future I can contribute, and not as now, only asking. I have some doubts and queries. Let's see. 1. Some times I add to my library some books, and by the moment, I change the author one by one, coping the author sort to the author field. Is there a way to do it with a few clicks? I mean, in bulk, not one by one. 2. I add to some tags about recommendation list I found in the web, and I create a virtual library only with the books that have all the tags of the recommendation list. However I want to create a category or virtual library, by example, only with books having, for example, 2 of 3 labels, interchangeably which tags. It's possible do that? Ok, that's all for now. Please, be kind with my grammar, I don't have enough practice yet. Regards from Lima, Perú Blessings |

Thanks for answer.... let's see. When I add a single book, I clic the "Edit metadata" icon and click the arrow button between "Author" and "Author sort", and clic the option "Copy author sort to author". However, my problem is when I add, by example, 25 books, nevermind if is the same author or not, the thing is that right now, I must change the author order, coping the author sort to author, one by one. So i need to do that but in bulk. I hope I can explain better now.

But it will do it for all authors - you can't select a subset. Before trying it I suggest you Backup your library see ==>> How do I backup calibre? What many of us do is to add books into a "New Books" library, and do whatever is needed to get the basic metadata correct, for me that's author(s), title and publisher, for others its author(s), title, series and tags etc -- and of course, that includes the Author Sort and Title Sort columns. Once we've done that we copy the books from the New Books library to our Main library - using the calibre Copy Books function. BR |

If you have set (override the default) the tweak for Sorts to the type you want.
Select books: Tap 'E' (bulk mode) Metadata edit: Tick the box 'Automatically set the Author Sort': OK (BTW there is also a tick for Title sort if you changed the default tweak for that. Both can be used at the same time) That will use the current rules |

Thanks to both for your answers. Sorry my delay to answer. The solution for the author issue was excelent, both solutions, now I have two options. Thanks again!
However the solution about tags was not usefull to me, but it was because I don't explained it well. I have a group of tags, topA, topB, topC, topD and topE. Of course each books also have his own tags (novel, mistery, erotic, history, etc.). I created a virtual library where I only have books that have all the tags of my group (topA, topB... ), however I want to create a virtual library where group books with, at least, 3 of 5 tags from my group. By example, one book with topA, topC, topD, topE; another book with tagB,tagC, tagE; another book with topA, topB, topC, topD... I hope I was able to explain better now. So, how can I do this, if it's possible? Sorry my grammar, i use Google translate to fix some mistakes in my grammar |

However, I would probably put those 'top?' tags in their own tag like custom column (toptags/Top Tags). I would use Bulk Metadata Edit Search and Replace facility to move the existing 'top?' values from the Tags column to the Top Tags column -- take care with this, suggest backup first. Then use the search term count facility - eg #toptags#=3 - to set up the VL's. BR Last edited by BetterRed; 05-01-2015 at 07:32 PM. |

Thanks for answer. Again I explained wrong, I noted that. Sorry about that please. I'll be more cleare now.
I visit some webs like goodreads to search their "top 100 bests books". I have 5 lists right now: topGoodreads, topEscritores, topLeMonde, topLecturalia and topWikipedia. By example, Cien años de soledad by Gabriel García Marquez is, by the moment, the only one that in all the lists was mentioned. However, this book have this tags also: Drama, Nobel Prize, Latino. Canto General by Pablo Neruda have this tags: Historic, Poetry, Nobel Prize, topGoodreads, topLeMonde, topWikipedia El Principito by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry have this tags: Fantastic, topGoodreads, topEscritores, topLeMonde, topLecturalia El Lobo Estepario by Hermann Hesse have this tags: Novel, Nobel Prize, topLecturalia So, I want to create a virtual library with authors with at least 3 of 5 tags (this tags: topGoodreads, topEscritores, topLeMonde, topLecturalia and topWikipedia). In the example, the only books are Cien años de soledad, Canto General and El principito. Not El Lobo Estepario because it have 1 of 5. That is what I try to do. It's is possible? I really hope that now I explain better Regards from Lima, Perú |

@mariaclaudia - it will be easy if you put the content descriptors - i.e. 'Fantasy', 'History', 'Romance' etc -- and the popularity descriptors - i.e. topGoodreads, topEscritores, topLeMonde etc -- into separate columns.
I suggest you leave the content descriptors in the tags/Tags column, and create new custom column for the popularity descriptors I'll call it topbooks/TopBooks, you would define it like this: Then enter values into the Top Books column such as this: Then you can do queries such as this: And the queries can be used to create Virtual Libraries ![]() BR Last edited by BetterRed; 05-04-2015 at 04:11 AM. |

THANKS A LOT!!!!! No more to say to express my gratitude. Your solution was exactly what i wanted, to resolve my concern. I can now have virtual libraries ordered according my need, and copy all of my books to my tablet and start reading according to my taste. Again : THANKS A LOT!!!!!
