Battery charging not full (?)

The maximum level I can charge the battery to is 96%. Then the reader indicates the battery is full. Is it a fault with the software/hardware?

Probably the calibration on the battery charge indicator. My original Kobo had the same issue but it cleared up after a few discharge/charge cycles. OTOH, my laptop stops charging at 96% as part of the battery life extension package.

Easy for battery charge state sensor to see lowest safe battery voltage level that will not kill the battery. It has to learn max safe charge over a few charging and discharge cycles. It always starts with a little lower max safe charge point because worst case over charging can explosively shorten battery life.

Unless you have a battery life problem I would not worry about it. It's supposed to stop charging (and not re-start charging until a little % is lost) in order to protect the battery...
