Unable to Open Item

I imported 12 epubs into Calibre and converted them to mobi. The mobi version opens in Calibre. I used a USB to save them to my Kindle, and every one says Unable to Open Item. I have tried send to library and save to disc. I have restarted my kindle and my computer. Any idea what the problem is?

Convert to azw3 instead.

Actually, lucky guess. It worked-is Mobi being phased out, and I should always convert to azw3 from now on?

azw3 is superior to mobi in every way, except that amazon does not allow email delivery of azw3 files.

I agree. But mobi used to work-so you are discontinuing it? I don't care, just want to know.

Nope -- calibre includes support for a number of obsolete formats already.

At least MOBI has some uses.

The files might have jammed the Kindle indexer or done something else weird -- that would be one of the areas AZW3 is superior

I am pretty sure they are handled in a saner manner.

Thanks. Maybe it was because I did not clear the books-I just deleted them on my kindle. The AZW3 books were appearing, opening, then disappearing. I pulled up a file view, deleted those files off my kindle, and resent the AZW3 files. Everything is fine.

I disagree with this statement. There have been many times when an azw3 file had really horrible formatting that wouldn't have been possible with a mobi, and I was able to "fix" it by converting to mobi. Azw3 is only superior for books with complex layouts, which does not include most novels. What is it, in your opinion, that makes azw3 such a better format?

Blaming it for Garbage Input is putting the blame in the wrong place.
