Free (Kindle) Single Dad Detour [Xtian Solo Fatherhood Post-Divorce Parenting Advice]
The Single Dad Detour: Directions for Fathering After Divorce by Tez Brooks is his newly-solo parenting self-help guide to Exactly What It Says In The Title, free courtesy of Christian publisher Kregel.
Although it's one of those "inspirational" sorts of books, one of the customer reviews says that this gives some very practical tips and illustrative humorous anecdotes that would be perfectly cromulent from a more secular Gentle Reader's point of view, so perhaps the audience that may find this potentially useful might be broader than usual, although they also do warn about an ultra-conservative religious viewpoint of gender roles (but apparently not one of those disrespectful ones that disparages women, according to a follow-up comment), so YMMV if you're less faith-based on those points. Currently free, probably just for the rest of the day @ Amazon (available to Canadians & in the UK and a bunch of other EU countries I spot-checked, but apparently not free for the US, which is odd, since they usually get the Kregel freebies; maybe this is just an early glitch appearance which will drop elsewhere later). Description Practical steps to embrace God's mission for single Dads Conventional wisdom holds that fathers have few parenting skills and that mothers always know best. The single father is often considered a mythical creature, found only in sitcoms as an object of humor or pity. Where does that leave real single dads? Too often, it makes them susceptible to overcompensation or apathy. Tez Brooks knows those feelings all too well. He’s traveled that road with his own children after an unexpected divorce. The Single Dad Detour is the result of his journey and the lessons he’s learned along the way. It’s a guidebook for the rocky road of single fatherhood, extending encouragement, confidence, and challenges, using specific examples from dads who’ve survived parenting and have hope to offer. There are no unreachable requirements for perfect fatherhood here and no twisty theological mysteries—just authentic, down-to-earth wisdom from one dad to another.
