I hope there is someone who can help me.
Problem My book on the istore is about 6 x smaller than what it should be. You can't read or see the images because of this. History I recently published a book on the istore. I created the book with an app on my ipad called book creator. I then published it through smashwords. Good and bad I then downloaded the book via smashwords and it works perfectly. However, from the istore I get two giant white pages with the tiny book on the top left corner. What is wrong? If you want to see the problem yourself, you can take a look at a sample of the book on the istore by typing edubrain in the search engine. The book is called The cupcake and is a picture book for children. I will appreciate any help I can get. Thank you |

Of greater help would be your css file(s), and the code from a sample page or two.

I can't help but think this is a fixed format book, possibly comprised of just image files, and not a standard "text" based eBook.

The sample looks fine for me in iBooks in OS X v10.9, but the sample appears to contain only the cover and a single page of text. Is that expected?
What device are you using when you see the problem, what version of OS X or iOS is it running, and is the problem visible for you in the sample or just in the full book? |

I looked at the sample on Smashwords; it appears to be a very short book; 9 pages in total!

Yes, the book is short at only 13 pages plus the front cover. It is a book to teach prepositions of place and is planned to be part of a series for young children.
As for the problem, I think it has something to do with the extra cover art I had to send. The cover art image has to be extremely large for some reason. Apple added this image as part of the book. Because the extra cover image is about 6 times larger than the actual book size, I think it caused a problem with the actual book. When I open the book in ibooks, the smashword version shows the actual cover of the book. The apple version shows my extra uploaded image as the picture. I would just have the extra image removed but it is one of the polices at smashwords to upload this extra cover. I am using an ipad mini 2 currently running the latest iOS for it. iOS 8.3 |

Can you post your css file and the html code for a couple of the pages...one showing a good image, the other showing a problem page? There are many reasons that could cause this. Seeing just a picture, without your code, makes it difficult to determine the actual problem.

When I was in elementary school, most teachers were graduates of what were called Normal schools, these being a two-year program for women. (Possibly they accepted men, but the only men I ever encountered in elementary school were principals and math teachers, who presumably had a bachelor's degree.) They taught rules, not concepts. As a result, I can do most math problems in my head and I can punctuate and spell without reference to a guidebook. I shall always be grateful to those comparatively uneducated young women. |

True, but I hope you can also refer him to the place where he can learn about it, the biggest reason I know what I know is because of forums like these where people share their information and help others learn.

The challenge though is that its unlikely anyone here has knowledge of the tool used to make this book. I'd suggest asking the author of the tool itself for help / guidance.

Ladies, Gents, and OmniOmega:
Excuse me, but do I understand that you used some tool (that nobody here has ever heard of, which doesn't bode well to begin with) to create a fixed-format book? And the FF Book, you're trying to publish through Smashwords? You can't publish FF books through Smashwords, for one thing. What's happening--as happens in ALL Fixed-Format books, if one doesn't know any better--is that somehow, in SW's intake process, they're corrupting the book display size, because the cover--which is now too large for the original viewport--is altering it. So: either get a Mac, or find another distributor that can and will accept FF ePUBs (most won't, BTW). Otherwise, you'll simply keep running into this scenario. N.B.: it's possible that SW has changed their policies, but I don't think that they have. Hitch |
