French accents and the point while saving
Greetings,
I need your help to set calibre in the way it treats the french titles : 1) When I send books to my device, the accents in titles are stripped, and I would like to keep them... How can I do that ? 2) When an author's name ends with a point, it is replaced with an underscore. Is it possible to replace them by nothing ? Thanks for your help ![]() |

Spaces and special (non-ASCII or punctuation) can cause file system issues on some devices. Calibre simplifies the file name to keep things simple
![]() Preference Save to disk has some options ONLY if you use that method Some devices use Embedded (not Library) metadata. Polish may update-fix that Save to disk, Connect to folder use 'device type' rules to update the DELIVERED book Plugboards are used to sneak additional metadata into the fields. Reading-up (the Calibre help) on these methods is suggested. |

Thanks again for your help theducks
![]() I use a folder device, and nothing in its options can help me... I use koreader and I don't use metadata to find my books, but folders and filenames. That's why it would be good if I could keep accents... Last edited by myki; 04-13-2015 at 09:15 AM. |

I think I didn't understand what you said, sorry for my english.
I understood after reading this post : https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...hlight=accents As you said Ascii characters are only kept when using the "saving to disc" feature. And sorry again, I didn't understand when you say : Quote:

When you change the metadata or cover for a book using calibre, the book is not updated. The changes are made in the database calibre uses. You have to do something more to get the books updated. Sending the book outside the library using "Send to device" or "Save to disk" will update the copy of the book that is created on the device or disk.
When doing these there are also the "Metadata plugboards". These are ways to fiddle with some of the metadata when the books are sent. A popular plugboard is to add the series name and number to the title of the book as most ereaders have no other way to display this. The plugboards can be created for each format and for each type of device and for "Send to device". |

French accented letters are not within the basic ASCII, but in Latin-1 Supplement, which may or may not be present in the default font/s of your reader.
Embedding fonts may be the only hope. |
