Help embedding fonts with Calibre

I'm doing some testing with an open source font named Incosolata. It's similar to the trademarked/licensed font Consolas.

When I try to embed the fonts in the book, it embeds Times New Roman just fine, but it gives the following error for Inconsolata:

Failed to find fonts for family: Inconsolata, not embedding.

This font is installed on my computer and is in my FONTS folder (Windows 7). I had changed all fonts to Inconsolata before exporting as an html file (to be used in Calibre).

When I try to add Inconsolata by itself, I get this error message:

Embedding referenced fonts
Failed to find fonts for family: Inconsolata, not embedding
No embeddable fonts found

I read in the Calibre FAQ (below) that it supports OpenType fonts (which Inconsolata is):

manual.calibre-ebook.com/faq.html

Here's the font I'm working with:

Any ideas what's going on?

Thanks,

Andy

Most likely the font family of your font does not match exactly what is iside the font file. You can get a list of all fonts that calibre has found on your system by clicking the vhoose font button in the Look & Feel ssection of the conversion dialog. You can even explicitly add fonts to calibre there.

I used to have a lot of problems with font embedding automatically. Some fonts in a certain font family (even Google Fonts) have their name declared inconsistently, and Calibre had difficulties finding them. I managed to manipulate these font properties and they are imported with no problem at all.

Another workaround without "fixing" the fonts is to embed them manually. I always have Editor to arrange files into folders, though I'm not sure if they mean something to readers.

Not all readers in Android understand (properly) embedded fonts. Moon Reader sometimes display them nicely, while in other books it ignores completely. FBreader and Google Play Book are the two application that support embedded fonts more than others, as far as I can see.

Thanks for the tips everyone. I'll keep those handy should I run into other issues. The problem I had kind of cleared after restarting Calibre.

I had Calibre running and went to Preferences, Look and Feel. On the Main Interface tab, I clicked on "Change font (needs restart)" and didn't see Inconsolata there. Closed up Calire and re-opened and it was then there. Just one of those things I guess.

Thanks,

Andy
