Missing Series on Metadata Download
Greetings Mobilereaders!
I'm having an issue with finding metadata for book series. If I have a book that already has the series information but some books I am not sure if they are part of a series or just one-offs. I have tried with a couple of books that I know are in Series and no matter which service I use for the metadata, even downloaded the B&N as well. I'm hoping that there is some simple step I'm missing. I have gone and come back to calibre a few times trying to correct the issue. I remove the Ids before a search and even tried replacing them with Ids that I know exist on amazon that has the book listed in the series but still, it grabs everything but that. I view the log and don't really see anything related to the series itself but sometimes the description/comments will have it noted so I feel like I'm just dancing around actually getting the Series listed in the metadata without having to search out and manually put all this in. I'm at 2.22.0 Calibre, OS X 10.10.3 I've searched and looked through the forums, most of what I find is just information on sorting the books going to the Kindle by series but not actually how to get the series information into the metadata to begin with (without manually entering it) Any help is appreciated! ![]() |

The problem is that Series information from the metadata sources is very hit-and-miss and of variable quality. The only reliable way is manual entry.

@bookrbt,
Attached is a little story made of images strung from top to bottom. The images were made from test data created by adding format-less "empty books" just now for this purpose with the Quarantine And Scrub add-on. Q&S does "Series-Level" scrubbing, including Series consolidation and renaming, as well as validation of Series and Index via a web source. There is a little "chicken and the egg" here. The "seed" is the example book that already had a valid Series. A validation of that Series took place, during which all 37 books within that Series were stored permanently within Q&S for future use. There is an image of that. When the "egg" (the book with no Series) was scrubbed by Q&S, it matched the Author and Title to known combinations stored permanently when the "seed" was validated against a web source. It then changed the Index accordingly. It can also change the Title to the correct Title if the Index is identical to what the web source said, and the % similarity that is calculated is high enough. The source of support and further information about Q&S is its User Guide and OP for the thread below. https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=247425 DaltonST |

Goodreads is one good place to search to see if the book in question is part of a series. Fantastic Fiction is yet another good source.

Stupid question, but did you mark the check box in the metadata downlod options to get the series information?

@bookrbt:
See the attached image. Version 3.6.53 of Q&S added this feature. The Q&S Series-Level Scrubbing/Renaming functions use this downloaded data that is kept permanently for future use by Q&S to automatically fix incorrect Titles, Series and Indexes. If the Series and Index are missing, it automatically adds them. https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=247425 DaltonST Last edited by DaltonST; 03-24-2015 at 12:40 PM.
