Black (not blank) screen with small white writing on my Kobo Touch...

Hello,

I recently plugged my Kobo touch into my computer, to check if there were any updates. My Kobo desktop told me there was an update for Kobo desktop, so I installed the update. My Kobo then synced to Kobo Desktop, and I used Kobo Desktop to eject my device.

Upon ejecting the device, the screen went black (not blank or white), and there appears to be '[[1~ or something similar in the upper right corner. I have tried to plug the device back in & it lights green, but is unresponsive. I have tried to hold the power button for 10 seconds & I have done a basic reset, all unresponsive with the black screen.

The battery to my device was fully charged before I did all these steps.

Anyone have any insight? All the information I can find so far doesn't seem to be similar to my black screen problem. I haven't done a factory reset yet but I'm not sure if that would fix things so thought I would try anything else first...

Thanks!

Sorry, at this stage I've more questions than answers:
- Did the Kobo have any hacks or tweaks installed, or was it standard factory firmware?
- Did you double check (in the Finder, or with whatever Windows calls it - Explorer?) that the Kobo was fully ejected from your system before unplugging?
- Can you post a photo of the screen?

If a full charge and pinhole reset haven't worked, the next step is a factory reset.

I confess that I avoid Kobo Desktop like the plague since it became unnecessary, so I've no personal experience to share with recent updates done that way. I always use over-the-air updates now.

The model number is shown on the bottom of the device, next to where it says 'Made in China'. It will be one of N905, N905B, or N905C.

Sounds like the file that was downloaded for the update was corrupted. It happens.

Perform the reset and try again. You can do the update again from the kobo desktop or over the air or in the developers corner following instructions posted there for your specific kobo device.

good luck and good reading
