Frozen screen - Recovery menu
Hello people.
Yesterday I got my Kindle K3 Keyboard D00901 model. The reader is frozen on the recovery screen. I tried the simple reset by pressing the power button for 30 seconds but nothing happened. I took the back cover away, and found it had not a reset button but just 2 mounds of solder. I closed the circuit linking the 2 mounds with a paper clip but nothing happened. Then I put it on wall charger. Started charging yesterday at 5pm GMT+1 time, this morning at 7am GMT+1 time was charged. As I read in the Kubrick guide, it should charge for at least 20hrs. So I will wait until tonight. But I noticed one thing: the screen was not in recovery menu but in Amazon Kindle home screen...has it done a full debrick ALONE? Was only a matter of recharge? What I'm asking now is...do I need a Kubrick debrick? Or should I reset from the settings menu? Thanks in advance for any help. |

First thing, after finishing the full re-charge time, is to try it, see if it works.
DO NOT try to reset it until you learn if it is working normally. If it is working normally, use it, keep a track of how quickly the battery discharges. This device **may** have a very low capacity battery. If it does, then anything that causes a massive number of writes to the flash chip, **might** discharge the battery before the commands complete - destroying the flash chip in the process. |

Oh, thanks a lot. Didn't know / read about that.
How long would a battery last? Anyway it has reset ALONE. I'll use it for a while and then see what happens. Thanks again by now |

Sounds very much like a bad battery.
You should be able to find replacements for the K3 battery at on-line stores. - - - - - It is difficult at times to diagnose a device's problems from multiple time zones away - but I am pretty sure of this call, this time. ![]() Last edited by knc1; 03-03-2015 at 12:37 PM. |

E-Ink screens do not turn off by blanking out as LCD screens do -- they simply stop changing and keep on showing the last thing they were told to show.
knc1 said he thinks the battery is dead -- seems reasonable. DO NOT use Kubrick, it won't fix the battery and is actually dangerous when the battery is not sufficient. |

![]() The crazy thing was it started working after an overnight charge...and now, after I plugged it on my pc, it reckoned it's a kindle. I'll buy a battery. |
