Move to Library
Is there a way to move new books to the library, instead of copying them to it?

Putting them into that folder would still need the same the same number of operations as adding and then deleting, alas. I'd just like to select them from the (general purpose download) directory they appear in, and have them clear up the directory behind them.

Just set the general purpose download directory to be the autoadd folder, and all ebooks that appear there will be automatically added and cleaned up without any actions whatsoever.
![]() Also, choose which formats you want added, or else you will have calibre add stuff like DOCX and ZIP. ![]() |

[edit] Although, that means there needs to be a listener program, right? What's the best way, can calibre sit in the background, or is this best added as a cron job? |

calibre itself must be running to use its autoadd. It can sit as a system tray icon.
You can also make a custom script using "for file in *.epub *.mobi; do calibredb add $file && rm $file; done" or some variation thereof and put that in cron. ![]() |

calibre's autoadd runs when calibre starts, and sits in the background waiting for spare cycles.
calibredb as a cron job quite naturally runs when you tell it to. calibredb is calibre's cli backend, for scripting calibre and using it in a headless environment. |
