Broken reader upgrade
How many have upgraded our readers not because we want to but because our existing reader is broken and will no longer read ebooks. I have done this twice already in the past few years. The first was about for years ago when my keyboard's on/off switch called it quits and I could no longer turn the unit on. The next was a few months ago when my paperwhite 1's screen went dead and I could no longer read anything. I have a Paperwhite 2 now.

None, here. All my upgrades have been because I want to, and my old Kobos have all been handed down to others and are still going. They're all in good covers and treated well.

My 505's screen controller crapped out and I managed to get Sony to send a 600. I sold the 600 and bought a 650. No other Reader has crapped out on me.

My Kindle Touch is still going strong after years of use, and I don't anticipate having to change it anytime soon.

And for the WIN....
I started out buying different readers as my money allowed, but now that I've got so many and I can see how much the same they really are for my needs, I'll be waiting til at least 3/4 of them give up the ghost before buying any more. |

I still have all three of my eInk readers. I can see myself getting a new kindle fairly soon. The battery life seems to have dropped quite a bit on my old keyboard model. None of them have any terminal problems yet, though.

I've only broken one, and since I have other readers I haven't replaced it yet. I am waiting for the new 300 PPI kobos.

I've only had one e-reader that was replaced because it was broken and that was my Nook classic. B&N replaced it with a new one. I did replace another (Nexus 7 2013) because it was stolen. All the others were replaced, simply because I wanted a new toy.

Amazon replaced my first Kindle Keyboard free of charge when I broke the display.
I have another Amazon Kindle Keyboard I bought later that does not start up anymore. Possibly I should try "debricking" it but as I have in the meantime a lot of other readers, including some now unused "basic" Kindles as they were so far mostly upgraded to PW II for most of my family members, it is not really a huge priority for me. So, most of my readers were not rendered obsolete by defect, but rather by the emergence of better new models. Best regards, Andy |

I've upgraded once because I wanted to. Twice was because of cracked screens (once under unknown circumstances) and once because I bricked the device (curse Sony and their locked down firmware).
