Files with .MOB extension (not .mobi)
Hello,
I have a bunch of files, apparently MOBI files, which have a MS-DOS style file name, ending with .MOB. When I drag such a file into calibre, it seems to be recognized as a mobi file, but its format is recorded as MOB, not MOBI. When I try to import the whole lot via the Import books button, the files are not recognized. Renaming all files is just a little bit too much. Is there another way to do it? TIA, Bart |

You can rename them in bulk, using one of several methods including the command prompt.

Thank you for your advice.
I already tried to bulk rename the files, using the freeware Bulk Rename Utility. However, I did not find a way to change the file name extensions with this program. A new search for bulk rename utilities brought me to Advanced renamer, http://www.advancedrenamer.com/ , also freeware, which did the trick. Regards, Bart |

Sure thing.
IMO the easiest way is still "ren *.mob *.mobi" ![]() But the Bulk Rename Utility has a box marked "extension" in the lower right quadrant. I am guessing that would do it. It is a pretty cluttered interface I guess. (I haven't used it, just seen the example pictures. I prefer regular expressions via the CLI.) Last edited by eschwartz; 03-01-2015 at 10:54 AM. |

Yes, rename might help, but in Windows it is missing a -r option.
The extension option in Bulk Rename Utility seems not to do what you expect. Advanced renamer does the trick. Bart |

Flash Renamer will change file extensions also. I've been using the program for years, it's one of the first things I install on a new system.
