Support for Calibre
Just like many people here, I'm a big fan of books and hence this software. I could never imagine, very honestly speaking, that managing e-books would be this easy. Since then, I've always wanted to pay back the volunteers of calibre back in some form and what I'm about to suggest might just do that in the best of ways.
I recently started working as student help at the company behind Adblock Plus. It's a browser extension that blocks ads with about 60+ million active users. Since the content on the web can simply not be made available for free, ABP believes in the acceptable advertising initiative. Such advertising is based on a certain criterion which if met, could allow ABP to not block the ad. So I'd like to suggest the developers/caretakers of this link (http://calibre-ebook.com/download) to get themselves Whitelisted and have an instant access to 60 million potential visitors. Since book readers are generally well-informed people and are more likely to use ABP (in my humble opinion), I believe it is going to help generate increased revenue for the website. The BEST bit is that it's not going to cost anything to get Whitelisted. Here's the link to application for WhiteList:https://eyeo.com/acceptable-ads-application.html And here's the link to Acceptable Ads criteria: https://adblockplus.org/en/acceptable-ads#criteria |

A good idea, looking at the acceptable ads criteria, I think the ads on the calibre website meet all of them, except for the no animations criteria.
I could in theory tell google to only serve text and static image ads (no flash/html 5), but that would significantly impact revenue from non-ABP users. Whether the increase from ABP users would make up for that is hard to say. |

Well I'd still strongly suggest you apply since ABP whitelists a wide variety of websites, I believe the relevant personnel can guide you to something agreeable to both parties.
Worst that could happen is that the website won't be whitelisted which it still isn't so it won't harm you... On the contrary, if things works out, it will definitely help. 60+ million users is not a small number by any means in my humble opinion. Rest is up to you. I'm just trying to help ![]() |
