I have used it for the whole day with many hours of reading but battery is still stuck at 90%. Also yesterday while charging battery only went up to 90 and stuck their even after charging for one hour. This is a new device and I have only been using for three days. Also this is my first time using a Kobo device, my previous ereader was a PW. Is such behavior normal or do I have something to worry about? I have been reading people posting about their Kobo from having some battery left to completely depleting to zero after boot. I don't want something like that to happen.
PS: Its still 90 even after reboot. |

I wouldn't worry about it yet, wait until you have depleted and recharged the battery a few times.
I find the battery meter on my Glo is not very accurate above 90% or below 30%, although the battery life is fine. I think the battery meter just measures the voltage, rather than the remaining capacity, and at the extremes the relationship between voltage and remaining capacity is not even close to linear. Also the charging seems to be done in steps using different methods, with the final step above 90% omitted if the battery is already well charged, to avoid overcharging. I find if I plug my Glo in with the battery already at 90% the meter just goes straight to 100%, and then when I unplug it goes back to 90% in a few minutes. To get a completely full charge I have to deplete the battery well below 90% and then charge without interruption to 100%. |

I will post later if it keeps this weird behavior.

Kobo's battery meter is pretty useless and spending a long time on 90% while charging is normal.
The battery can last 60 hours or more so as GeoffR says I wouldn't be worried about it staying on 90 percent for a few hours. If it's still there after a week or more there may be an issue. |

Here is my experience after 10 days. Battery is now at 55% with at least 2 hrs of reading everyday for last 10 days and with front-light at 30% almost always. The Battery reported by device is highly unreliable, it jumped up and down many times during these 10 days. It remained at 100% for a long time, then fell to 87%. Overall software experience of Kobo is worse than Kindle with worse touch performance too. But screen is definite improvement over Kindle PW first generation.

It can take a few charge/discharge cycles to properly calibrate the battery meter on any device. Don't worry about it.

For the first couple of cycles I'd consider discharging it until it tells you to recharge and then charging all the way up. That should set any correction capability the system has in terms of determining the low and high points. Further, full working battery capacity is not usually reached until after several charge/discharge cycles with Lithium Ion batteries.
