Free (Kindle) All God's Children [Xtian Quaker WWII Resistance Drama Novel w/Romance]
All God's Children by Anna Schmidt is the 1st in her Peacemakers series of WWII historical drama novels with strong romantic elements (or romantic drama novels with strong historical elements, depending on how you look at it) starring persons of the Quaker faith denomination dealing with various WWII historical situations, this installment set in Germany and starring a German American Quaker heroine trapped by the outbreak of the war, and her native German patriot beau and together, they fight crime! join the resistance against the Nazis, free courtesy of Christian publisher Barbour's Shiloh Run imprint.
This is apparently very strongly grounded in both WWII historical setting and Quaker religious practice detail (but not so much in a narratively preachy way as more describing the rituals that the heroine does to find strength in her faith, it would seem), and at least one of the customer reviews mentions that while there's definitely a romance that's paid attention to in it, it's also set up rather quickly so that the leads can get on with their resistance activities rather than doing relationship drama and they'd class it as an historical centred around a love story, rather than a dedicated love story in an historical setting. So YMMV if you were wanting more in the way of romance-y-ness concentrating on the couple. That said, the author does write dedicated romances for Harlequin's Love Inspired imprint as well, so YMMV in the other direction if you were hoping for less. Currently free @ Amazon (available to Canadians & in the UK). Shiloh Run books often also become free eventually @ ChristianBook (DRM-free ePub available worldwide), so some linkage for your price-drop-check convenience. And this has been the selected 3rd (non-repeat) free ebook thread of the day. Pretty much by default, but it's the most interesting of the lot that popped up for today, and it does feature one of the less common faith denominations which I've always kind of liked, because the actual RL Quakers seem to be generally pretty inclusive and progressive and on many issues which are Relevant To My Interests™, and also make great oatmeal. ![]() Plus, I also happen to have this thing for WWII homefront-type stuff and the cross-continental cultural mixing that resulted as part of the shake-ups of the war, so bonus points for involving themes I like to read about, even if I'm personally rather unlikely to actually read this iteration of them. Enjoy! Description Beth Bridgewater, a German American, finds herself in a nightmare as World War II erupts—a war in which she takes no side, for she is a Quaker pacifist. Just as she gains opportunity to escape Germany, Beth decides to stay to help the helpless. Meanwhile, Josef Buch, a passionately patriot German, is becoming involved in his own secret ways of resisting the Nazis. . . . Despite their differences, Beth and Josef join together in nonviolent resistance—and in love. Does their love stand a chance. . .if they even survive at all? |
