Chained search / replace regexp

Hi,

Sorry if this have been answered, but I haven't found the post . Is there any way to execute a search/replace after other when you are doing a bulk metadata edit? Modifying a regexp is not the answer, because both of those searches are regexp, and they apply to the same field (comment, so no tag browser, no special treatment....)

Thank you in advance

You can do one, then hit "Apply" instead of "OK" -- and you will remain in the window, with the books selected. Then do the next regex.

If you have saved the searches, you can use them as per the usual method.

Yes, I know I can apply the first and use the next one. I was looking for a one button method And yes, they're saved, it has taken some time to modify my comments so they look well in the jacket and my kobo

No other method that I have seen in my perusal of options and configurations, then.

No, they are "interesting".

I have asked a few strange/interesting things myself... You Are Not Alone.

I too would like something where I could set up a multi-step process - not so much for S&R actions though. Example - convert, resize cover, polish, modify, save as. Some actions are not available from the command line.

I've done a couple with Auto Hot Key, but it's not my favourite gadget.

Someone popped up in the dev subforum a while back with an idea for an automation plugin. No idea where that went...

I would like something like that, too, because my process is usually automatic in some points.

I don't know it, but if it's based on key recording or something similar, no, thank you, I don't like that kind of tools.

Yes, I read it but, if I recall correctly, it required some modifications in the plugins to be invoked, and the dev was asking for specific sequences, so I don't know..

AFAIK it went nowhere - as a PI it seemed to be too hard, we concluded it would have to be in the core. The 'volunteer', who's nick escapes me, didn't really want to tackle changes at the core. He decided he would tackle something simpler - I forget what it was though.

My need for it is not as great as it was. Since I first raised the idea we distributed the workload, ~dozen 'books' a day, between six of us. There's always another way to skin a cat

Not for the first time we are furious agreement. Although it needs to said that AHK produces editable code, which can be 'compiled' into an EXE. It doesn't have to replay keystrokes.

Maybe it could be done with a Python script. That's another avenue of calibre I haven't explored.

You could certainly do it with scripts running through calibre-debug, but I imagine it would require excessive knowledge of shadowy backend corners and the API building blocks.

Which does remind me -- I wanted to create something that would import books and save the original filename to a custom column.

Ah yes, that's one the main reasons I've ignored python scripts, I don't really like the idea of running in debug-mode

I thought you'd already done that.

thinking aloud: be better if it was in a PI so the rest of can enjoy the fruits of your labour. Maybe add books preferences could have a hook to a PI that if not null it could get a call after book is added, but before its deleted from the autoadd folder, if that's in play.

That would be a nice idea, and I think I would find it very useful for the following steps (now I do it by hand, according to the type of book, etc, etc)
