Remove nested title in a custom column
I've created a custom column called SciFi, it displays in Calibre as
SciFi | SciFi (162) How do I remove that nested second SciFi title so that the books will be listed directly in the first SciFi Column ?. |

If the above is correct, then you cannot remove the nesting in the tag browser. The outermost SciFi is the name of the column. It displays all the text values in the column, which in your case is only the word SciFi. |

@leftright - Why create a custom column, rather than simply putting SciFi into the Tags column, or maybe creating a User Category for SciFi which has all the SciFi authors.

What I want to achieve is a Column/title which houses all my SciFi books, which will be visible in Kobo and Calibre Companion software

For the Kobo, what you are doing will work. I use a tag-like column for ad hoc shelves.
You can also use the tags columns, though that can produce a lot of shelves. A custom column based on the tags column will work. An example of this would be a column using the following template: Code:
{tags:'list_intersection($, "SciFi, Mystery", ",")'} |

The user category plug in doesn't allow one to only add "selected books", by author is the closest, but there are authors who write non fiction and fiction like Isaac Asimov, so the user category plug in doesn't work for Scifi or Must Read group.
I'll stick with that ugly nested column as it's the lessor of all evils across my three platforms. I've created a series for my "Must Read" books, but it isn't really right is it, Ideally I'd like these non series collections to be grouped in un-nested stand alone group/titles. I've also created a series called "Human Servitude", it contains books by various authors, The series numbering is according to date published which I manually enterd. Some readers can't list the books by "Published Date". To me it's important to list my entire collection by Authors > Published Date - (default to title if no published is date present) . It's seems logical to read non series books of the same author by published date rather than title sort. anyway I'm rambling here.... Many thanks for your time.
