Page numbering in converted KEPUB's
On my device footer does not show correct page number (it freezes) in KEPUB files converted in Calibre from EPUB. Anyone with the same issue or is it something with my Calibre settings?

What do you mean by "it freezes"?
The only issue I have seen with page numbering from a converted kepub is when each internal file wasn't in the ToC. This isn't mandatory for epubs, but it seems to be for kepubs. |

Well, it stops on a given page. I can change pages, the number stays the same though.

Epub and kepub files are zip files. The contain files with the metadata and the text. The text is in HTML or XHTML files. On of the files is an NCX which contains the ToC. Calibre can rebuild the ToC in a few different ways. Polish and a conversion will automatically rebuild them based on a search. You can also use the editor or the "Edit ToC" function. These have several options for building the ToC based on headings, anchors or files within the book.

I think it should only happen if there is a 1:1 relationship between the pages and the ToC. And that probably means each file has only one screen of text. Of course, that is also font size dependent. If this is the problem, changing to a huge font will probably show multiple pages per chapter.

we discussed this a few weeks back & you pointed me at an explanation - my thread should be here somewhere. it was the Stephen King dark tower novels as I recall that had sections within chapters within parts, and the the toc entries only pointed to chapters., the new sections would start mid-page often and the page number would stick there until the next section came along. ( when trying to use the whole-of-book page nuber option)
& I also had the opposite problem with a mitchener book, where over-long chapters has been split by publisher but toc did not reflect that. I think you asserted that kobo get it right for the books they sell & that it's a sideloaded _ epub->kepub convert issue. I don't have that thread on my subscribed list anymore - the relevant conversation may well be buried on one of those overlong firmware 3.xx threads, back when the whole-of-book page number option got added. I converted a book to KEPUB, and I think I know what you mean - when I create a new ToC from files, there are additional entries though, like the photos that are separate .html files.
1. Can I merge two and more .html files into one I will use in the ToC? 2. If not, can I automatically rename .html files referring to chapter titles so that they have the same names? 3. Can I set Calibre to use the file names when I create a ToC from files instead of first words in those files? EDIT: I've been sitting and modifying the books in my library to put every .html file into the ToC - and it WORKED! Thanks guys. Now reading the books with footnotes and pictures will be much easier. Not that I could not do it before - but like when everything works perfect. PS. Seems the KEPUB and EPUB files have a different font size while the slider is set to the same value - probably the difference between the two engines I guess? If you've patched your Kobo, then yes, the font sizes will be different as you've patched libnickel which is RMDSK.

No, what buhaj47 is seeing has always been the case. It's an annoying thing if you swap between epubs and kepubs as you need to adjust the font size.

you can merge / rename htm lfiles , manually edit toc tc with sigil editor.
you can probably do it with calibre editor also now, but I use Sigil. best way to learn is to make backups then experiment lots. |

Hi Guys, I haven't been tracking the recent updates and still make sure there is 1:1 correspondence between index entries and html files while converting epubs.
Is it still required for page numbering to work correctly? |
