author name - which is correct R.R or R. R. ?

I seem to have a mixture- so may as well get it 100%

& for my own education - the general rule for an author with a double middle initial is what - space or no space ? or do publishers just take a wild guess ?

The Quality Check has a 'fix' for initials. You choose your preference, then run it.

I use a space after the period(s)

Typographically the best thing to do is a \thinspace --- that way it won't break, but has less space than a full space (which looks gappy) and isn't so tight (and clotted) as being set solid. Linguistically a space is better / correct, and makes swapping in a thinspace easier. Best is to use a Unicode thinspace (in Unicode-aware applications).
